Red for Christmas in July

What to wear for a car club run in the country and a Christmas in July lunch at a country pub . The obvious choice for me was red with leopard touches - always a favourite of mine.

Christmas in July is a bit of a local tradition , no doubt started by homesick English folk that felt the cool weather in July is much more suitable for eating heavier Christmas fare . Maybe it just is an excuse to dress your pub in as much Christmas kitsch as is possible. Whatever the reason it was a great drive in the country and an enjoyable lunch with friends.
After lunch we ventured further afield to a Forest Reserve that was completely new to me but a special spot for John and his family . Fortunately I had sneakers in the car, red suede and bush tracks don't mix. A relatively short walk through the bush to a forest lookout revealed quite a stunning sight  known as the Alumn Cliffs Gorge.

A Velvet Capelet

I have always loved the luxury of velvet and had been searching for a capelet for what seems an eternity, so when I stumbled across this little number in a local vintage store I knew we were perfect
for each other.  The flocking on the velvet and its satin bow added to the allure for me.

I envisage the capelet worn with so many different colours but for its first outing I teamed it with my
black Moyuru skirt and a wool knit top. For some colour I added my orange leather gloves , from Paris last year , a vintage orange hat , black booties and a Spencer and Rutherford tulip bag.

I  have a confession to make , my love of accessories seems to becoming an obsession .I simply can't
resist adding to my collection at every opportunity- fortunately usually from thrift or recycle stores.
The good thing about accessories , they don't date or wear out and they always fit. We all need a hobby don't we. I have recently turned my son's old bedroom into , as my husband refers to it," a whacking great walk in wardrobe." More collecting to come for sure-well I must use the space.

A reminder of Spring - only three months to wait for tulip time- I have had this bag from Spencer and Rutherford for several years and it always makes me smile.

I love this orange velvet vintage hat , another purchase from the hat collection of a lady who owns a local bric-a-brac shop, even though it does remind you of a brain.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Today's post is a trip down memory lane for me , a visit to the town of Evandale where I attended
Primary School so many moons ago. The town has embraced its history in recent times and now attracts many tourists . It is home to the National Penny Farthing Championships and attracts riders
from all around the world.

Sitting outside the Ingleside Bakery , in my school days this was the local hall and the scene of many
Speech Nights and School Concerts ,no doubt complete with daggy costumes and off key singing .
The main street with its beautifully restored buildings and homes on a peaceful Winter Monday morning. The shop above was the place to go for sweets and milkshakes and I was thrilled to see the inside lovingly restored.
For my trip down memory lane I chose a new cream jacket from Moyuru which I teamed with a black skirt , also by Moyuru , black leather gloves and black patent leather shoes.
This little black vintage hat is a new purchase from a local bric-a-brac store. The lady who owns the store is an avid collector and is now selling some of the hats she bought over many years simply because she loved them but never wore them. I am now the proud owner of a few hats from her collection and will most definitely love and wear them.
