Golden Wattle (Acacia Pycnantha) is native to South Eastern Australia . The flowering season is from late July into August when the tree is covered with bracts of golden blooms . I always eagerly anticipate the arrival of the flowering wattles , they herald the start of longer days in the final weeks of Winter.
The gold of the wattle seems to add a warm glow to everything around it , I never cease to be in awe of how clever Mother Nature is. The arrival of such vibrance at an otherwise dull time of year bears testament to this. I am adding my own touch of gold in the studs on my gloves and the buttons on my military style coat.
Today I am wearing a military style coat from Lisa Ho that has seen many Winters , worn over a lace trimmed black skirt by Jump, from many seasons ago , my studded gloves from Ted Baker , black suede boots and a bag from Spencer & Rutherford.
I found this navy blue velvet hat recently at my local recycled clothing store and knew it had to be mine even though navy and I are not really the best of friends. It is made by Frederick Fox in England , and the label inside says , "By appointment to Her Majesty The Queen , Milliner " .. It is the most sumptuous velvet and I really love the oversize bow , I think we have bonded. Ah, hat love, the best.
I had to finish, as I started with a floral theme , these are the first daffodils to flower in my garden , a definite harbinger of Spring.
Joining ( a little late ) Jess for Turning Heads Tuesday and Alice for Throwback Thursday and later in the
week I will share my new hat with the other hats at Style Crone for Hat Attack.
